Who goes all the way to Europe and comes back with a suitcase full of cookies and chocolate?
On our first day in Holland, my aunts and my mom suggested that I have a 'Holland Night' when I get back for my bible study. Of course, I love any excuse for a themed table so I started planning.
I ordered the red gingham tablecloth from Amazon and it was delivered to my house 2 days later. (Thank you Amazon Prime!!) I started collecting little treats from each town we visited. Holland is known for their blue and white china so I picked up a few of those pieces as well.
In one of the villages we visited, a Dutch family hosted us for tea and Dutch Apple Pie. They were so hospitable and even played a few Hymns for us. The Netherlands is mostly a secular country so I thought it was neat that this couple was so open in their faith with us.
The Holy Spirit knows no borders!
I enjoyed our time so much with them that i decided to make a Dutch Apple Pie for my group as well. Thanks to Pinterest I was able to find a recipe that started with a frozen pie crust. You can certainly make your own from scratch but I like to cut corners sometimes!
Also, to make your life so much easier, invest in an apple peeler! This thing is AMAZING. It peels, cores and slices the apple into a spiral so it's easier to cut. It takes about 6 seconds from start to finish. Click HERE to find it on Amazon.
Dutch Apple Pie is a little more dense than the apple pies that we're used to but I really enjoyed it. Drew added vanilla ice cream to his and loved it too!
