We start a new bible study this Monday and I am SO EXCITED! It kind of feels like the first day of school. Yep – I was the girl that really loved the first day.
I’ve got my new book (Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer), new pens and a new pink binder. All of these things are great but the thing I love most about a new bible study is the fact that we usually have a few new girls join. I really love getting to know them and spending time with them. There’s nothing sweeter than a friendship built on the Rock.
I’ll get to pray with and for these girls over the next few months and study God’s word with them. What could be better than that?
Over the past few years, I’ve learned a lot about Godly friendships – how to make them, how to cultivate them, etc. I’ve shared a few nuggets of wisdom that God has revealed to me below:
Thank your Heavenly Father for them daily! James tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above (James 1:17). You usually see this verse on birth announcements but I think it lends itself to the good gift of Godly friendship that the Lord gives to us.
Tell them the truth. Don’t tell them what you think they want to hear, share God’s truth (gently) with them. Even when it’s hard. My most meaningful friendships are the ones that keep me accountable.
Pray for a hedge of protection. The enemy does not want us to be friends and he will try every scheme he can think of to drive us apart. Don't give in to his tactics - remember that we have one common goal, Christ. Pray that the Lord would protect your relationship and that it would always glorify Him.
Carry their burdens (Galatians 6:2). Cry with them, laugh with them, rejoice with them! Life is so much easier when you have someone in your corner. Let's strive to love and care for each other the way Christ does.
Love them in their language. Take the 5 Love Languages Test to see what you are. Ask them what theirs is and love them well. Some girls like cards in the mail, some like encouraging texts, some like ice-cream dates (who doesn’t!?).
Pray for them. Whether it’s on the phone, by text or in person, ask them how you can be praying for them and then do it! Praying for a friend at the throne of grace is the greatest gift we can ever give to them.
Feed them! I find that most of my relationships revolve around this one. Invite someone over for coffee or supper. Meet up with someone at Chick-Fil-A for some one-on-one time outside of bible study. You just can't go wrong with good food and good company!
Speaking of food, the real reason why you came here was to see how to make this delicious dip!
It's football season and that means you'll be having tailgate food for supper for the next five months. I'm certainly not complaining but it's the truth, right!?
I wanted to make something a little different for the game so I chose to make a sweet dip but serve it with some salty pretzel chips - YUM. It's a great combination that your crowd (or Bible Study) will love!
Hope you enjoy!
