Activity Make and take cookies, cupcakes and Christmas cards
If you are a child anxiously anticipating Christmas; it’s finally HERE! If you are an adult who just put up last year’s tree; it’s finally HERE…again! I love Christmas and everything about it but I long for that childlike excitement and anticipation for Christmas Day. My family would argue that I still have it. Christmas music and Christmas movies have been playing at our house since October. How can we get our children as excited about a baby in a manger as they get over a chubby man in a bright red suit? That has started me thinking…
Wonder if this Christmas we could ponder over a list of who we could serve instead of making our own wish list? Let’s read the REAL Christmas story before we share ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. We could focus on meeting the needs of others rather than counting our own gifts. As parents we are responsible for sharing the real meaning of Christmas with our children. So this week we have a special activity to do as a family.
Make your favorite Christmas cookies or cupcakes and take them to a neighbor, a shut-in, or someone who needs a little Christmas cheer. Decorate Christmas cards to go along with your special treats. My daughter used to help a favorite teacher deliver her Christmas Confections after the school Christmas program every year and she counted down the days for this much anticipated event.
Let’s be the feet of Jesus this Christmas. Relate your gift giving adventure with Jacob’s gift in the story. When you give a gift to one of God’s children you give a gift to God who blessed us with the greatest gift… “Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”(Luke 2:11) That’s what CHRISTmas is all about!
Special thanks to Cakes by Rebekah for the darling snowman cupcakes!
