If you are a family who celebrates Easter with Easter Baskets, use the baskets as an opportunity to point your children to the real meaning of Easter. Take their baskets "Beyond the Bunny."
This would be a great time for a new Bible or devotional. There are so many great devotionals for all ages. Choose ones that fit your child's interests.
A prayer journal is also a great idea.
Include the latest Christian movie DVD.
Give them something for their rooms; a cross for their bookshelf or wall hanging with scripture.
If candy, especially chocolate, is really important, we found chocolate crosses which could replace the chocolate bunnies.
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross.” Hebrews 12:2
As Christians we should always keep our eyes on Jesus, and this cross could be that daily reminder to keep Him first in everything. Make one to keep and another to share with someone else who may also need reminding.
I love this cross and it is quick and easy to make. We had this up a couple of years ago on Parking Space Faith but we thought we would resurrect the idea for Easter. (Yes pun intended!)
First choose your canvas. These pictures are 20x16, but pick a size to fit your space. Then choose a paint color and burlap or twine. The combinations are endless so make yours as unique and individual as you are. You may use a brush or a sponge on a stick like we did. After you are finished painting the front and all 4 edges, let it dry completely before adding the cross.
Now roll out enough burlap or twine to cover the length (top to bottom) of the canvas. Pull the material tightly before attaching both ends with hot glue or a staple gun. Next cut the horizontal (side to side) piece about 6-8 inches longer than you need to allow room for the knot. Tie your knot, and then attach each side to the back. Finally, to make your cross even more meaningful, add a favorite verse or phrase with a paint pen or a metallic marker. You have just created the perfect Easter gift … Lead Me to the Cross.
My husband's cousin, Cindy, is so in tune with the way God displays His glory in nature. I came across this post she put up on facebook and thought it was so beautiful. With her permission, I'd like to share it with you...
"A dove with his belly hanging over my gutter! I don't know what he's finding to eat around here but evidently it's plenty! Jesus said, 'Look at the birds of the air: They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his life?' Matt. 6:26 & 27. Funny how Jesus' words come to mind....."
Lord, as we go through what may be a day of trials and difficult moments help us remember that you have promised to give us everything we need because you love us so dearly. What we need may not be things we can physically touch. You may give us peace in a situation of marathon proportions or patience in a situation that we feel urgent about, but you will know.... you will just know. Thank you, Father.
