“…Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:1-2). Our final week of Advent we will focus on the Wisemen. They traveled many miles to see Jesus and they arrived when he was about 2 years old. No GPS for these guys. The “Star of East” was their navigator. Remember to share this with your children. I was an adult when I realized the Wise men were not at the manger. One way you could help your children visualize this would be to place the Wisemen in your manger scene away from the Holy family and the shepherds. So this week we will be making a cardboard star like the Magi saw, to help us remember that Jesus is the true light of Christmas. Stories: The Visit of the Wisemen by: Martha Jander, Wisemen Follow the Star by: David Cook Songs to Enjoy : “Joy to the World”, “We Three Kings”, “Wisemen Still Seek Him”, “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” Craft: Cardboard Star This star is so cute and really easy to make. everyone can get in on the fun! Here is what you will need… a cardboard box, twine, 1 button per star, glue, sparkly ribbon, glitter, and a star pattern. First, trace two stars on the cardboard (one will be larger than the other). After stars are cut out, add glitter to one or both stars. When dry, glue smaller star onto larger star. Attach the button to the center of the smaller star and punch a hole at top for the twine. Tie the glittery ribbon to the top where it hangs from the twine. Now you have your own beautiful star of Bethlehem. The Magi followed the star and actively sought out Jesus. They kept their attention on our Savior and didn’t let a few miles or lack of a map keep them from bringing Him gifts of worship and praise. I pray all of our families keep Jesus as our focus not just during the Christmas season but throughout the rest of the year too. Remember “Wise men still seek Him”.
“When they saw the star they were overjoyed. On coming to the house they saw the child and his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him…and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:9-11) Seeking Him, Lisa
